BuzzCode

Your building's intercom, finally on your terms.

BuzzCode gives your intercom a phone number that answers itself. Visitors type or say their BuzzCode and the gate opens. No call to your phone, no waiting around for a delivery. Use it for temporary codes for short-term rental guests, a code for delivery drivers, and codes for your cleaner or dog walker that only work during their hours.

Everyone you let in gets their own BuzzCode: a few digits to type on the keypad, or a phrase to say.

Cancel anytime. No contract, no setup fee.

How it works

  1. 1

Add your unit and pick a local number

Sign in, name your unit, and pick it a local number in the area code you choose. It's active from the first payment and stays yours while your plan is running.

  2. 2

Give that number to your building

Add your intercom number to your unit's entry in the intercom directory. Or replace the number that's there, if your building only allows one. That's the only setup step.

  3. 3

Visitors buzz, give their BuzzCode, and walk in

The intercom dials your intercom number. BuzzCode answers, checks the BuzzCode, and opens the gate. Anyone without one can still ring through to your phone.

Ways to use it

Short-term rental guests

Give each stay its own BuzzCode that starts at check-in and stops at checkout. Guests let themselves in, even at 2 AM.

Delivery drivers

Put one BuzzCode in your delivery instructions for Amazon, UPS, FedEx or food delivery. Drivers get through the gate without you picking up the phone. Set it to work only in the daytime and get an email each time it's used.

Cleaners, dog walkers and caregivers

A BuzzCode that works only during their hours, every day. Turn it off in one tap when the arrangement ends.

What you get

A local number of its own

Pick the area code, then the number. One per unit, and it works with intercoms that dial a phone number, which is most of them.

Forwarding when you want it

No BuzzCode? The call rings your real phone so you can still open the gate. All day, or only during hours you set.

A BuzzCode for everyone

Guests, delivery drivers, family and your cleaner each get their own. Set dates, daily hours or a number of uses, and see in the log who came in.

Keypad or voice

Guests type their BuzzCode on the intercom keypad. If your intercom doesn't pass key presses, they say it instead.

Alerts and a log

An email when the gate opens or someone enters a wrong BuzzCode. Every call shows up in your activity log.

Nothing to install

No app for guests and no hardware. You manage everything on this site.

The honest part

We don't touch your intercom.

BuzzCode can't program your building's directory. Your building manager or the intercom company does that. It's usually a one-line change: add the intercom number we give you to your unit's entry. If your building only allows one number per unit, replace the existing one instead.

Once that number is in, you're all set. BuzzCodes, forwarding, and alerts are all managed right here. You never need to bother the building again.

Works with intercoms that dial a phone number (most do). Not for app-only or key-fob-only systems.

Questions

Does my intercom work with BuzzCode?+

Yes, if your intercom calls a phone number when a visitor selects your unit. That's the kind where you press a key on your phone to open the door, and it covers most apartment and gated-community systems. App-only or key-fob-only systems don't apply.

Where does BuzzCode work?+

In the United States (including Puerto Rico) and Canada. We're expanding to more countries soon. If yours isn't listed yet, send us a note and we'll let you know when it's ready.

Can delivery drivers get in when I'm not home?+

Yes. Create a BuzzCode for deliveries and add it to your delivery instructions (Amazon, UPS, FedEx and most food apps have a field for gate or access codes). We suggest daytime hours, say 8 AM to 9 PM, and an email alert, so you know when a package arrived.

What if the keypad doesn't send tones during the call?+

Some intercoms don't pass key presses once the call connects. Switch the unit to spoken BuzzCodes and guests say a phrase instead, like "blue banana". You can also allow both.

Can I give different BuzzCodes to guests, family, and my cleaner?+

Yes. Each BuzzCode has a name, an optional start and end date, and an optional number of uses. Turn any BuzzCode off without affecting the others. The activity log shows which one was used.

What about visitors without a BuzzCode?+

They can still reach you. BuzzCode can ring your phone when someone has no BuzzCode, always or only during hours you choose, and you open the gate by pressing the same key you always have. Prefer not to be disturbed? Set it to hang up instead, and no BuzzCode means no entry.

Can I use BuzzCode for more than one place?+

Yes. Each apartment, office or house is its own unit, with its own number, its own BuzzCodes and its own settings, all in one account. Each is billed separately, so you can change or cancel one without touching the others. Accounts start with room for five. Send us a note if you need more.

Can I choose my own number or area code?+

Yes, every unit gets a local number you pick. Choose the area code, then take the number you like from the ones available there. A local number matters: some older building phone systems won't dial long distance.

What happens if I cancel?+

Your number keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for. Then it's released. Cancel any time from the billing portal. No contract, no fees.

Is it secure?+

Repeated wrong BuzzCodes trigger a lockout and an alert, and every call is verified as coming from our phone provider before it is answered. BuzzCodes are stored in a readable form so you can look them up, which also means our staff can technically see them. Treat them like a spare key, not a password. A code you share widely, like one for deliveries, is best limited to daytime hours.
